A Comparison of Different Selection Strategies on Simple Genetic Algorithms
Research Advisor: Prof. Jun Zhang
Compare three different selection operators used in simple genetic algorithms: roulette wheel selection, tournament selection and linear ranking selection;
Adopt new and effective benchmarking methodology based on statistics;
The results show that SGA with tournament selection strategy has better performance than the other two in function optimization problem.
The Effect of Orthogonal-Optimization Crossover on Genetic Algorithms
Research Advisor: Prof. Jun Zhang
Introduce orthogonal optimization to the crossover operation in genetic algorithms;
Ensure that the offspring(s) succeeds the currently best genes from its parent(s);
The result of the experiment shows that the algorithm with improved operation is more efficient in solving some function optimization problems.
(The papers of the upper two research projects were submitted to Computer Engineering and Application, a kernel computer-science journal in China, but rejected due to “limited application value”.)
Intelligent User Interface Generation Based on Genetic Algorithms
Prospective Topic of Degree Thesis
Research Advisor: Prof. Jun Zhang
Model user action and interface elements, develop a cost of use function;
Use genetic algorithms to optimize the function;
Generate adaptive user interfaces.
